grounding Roots Reflexology

Kate Pendleton, Certified Reflexology Practitioner

What is reflexology?

Reflexology has a long history that dates back to ancient times. Evidence of foot massage as treatment can be seen in Egyptian tomb paintings from around 2330 B.C. It was also practiced in ancient China, where it was linked to concepts of energy pathways in the body. In the early 20th century, Dr. William Fitzgerald developed modern reflexology by introducing "zone therapy," which connected different body parts to specific points on the feet. Eunice Ingham worked with Fitzgerald's concept and further developed it into what we know as reflexology now.

The practice of reflexology is based on the principle that specific points on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to different organs and systems in the body. Each area, known as a reflex point, is thought to mirror a specific part of the body, creating a map that allows practitioners to target health issues.

When pressure is applied to these reflex points, it is believed to stimulate the nervous system, improve circulation, and promote the body's natural healing processes. This can help relieve tension, alleviate pain, and improve overall well-being. There are over 8,000 nerve endings in your feet, so it is no surprise that addressing them through physical touch can have fascinating and wonderful effects on the entire body.
